Hey there, I’m Jason from Handyman on the Mornington Peninsula and I have to tell you… your in luck… because repairing holes in plaster walls and making ceiling cracks disappear, like they were never there, is one of my specialties… and yes… I also paint and colour match.

The problem is… this is one of those tricky job when you don’t quite know who to call.

Should you call a handyman or should you call a plasterer?

Let’s see if I can clear this up for you

When you should call (me) the handyman:

If you have one or more holes in your plaster walls and ceilings, or if the plasterboard is starting to show cracks from movement, then this is the right time to call a handyman, as long as he has the experience and skills required.

You know… skills like this:

When should you call a plasterer:

Generally, you’d call a plasterer when you need whole sheets replaced or the job is too big for one man. This would be the case if your ceiling is starting to come down, or if you’re renovating and have installed new walls.

How much does the plasterboard repair cost?

It’s hard to give an average price on plasterboard repair work because there are so many factors that go into determining the price.

Let me try to explain the factors that lead to variation in price.

1. The number of holes.
2. The size of the holes
3. The location of the holes
4. Whether you need me to paint or you’ll paint yourself
5. If you have the paint or you need me to match and supply it.
6. If you have a list of other jobs that you need me to do while I’m there

For one hole, I consider the time it takes to set up, and pack up for each coat. I may need to set up and pack up 3 times to allow for filling, drying and sanding.

I have to consider the time it takes travelling to and from your house in between coats. Once I complete a coat I have to go away while it dries, which means travelling to another job and then coming back to do the next coat.

An estimate for one hole would be around $350.

With each additional hole, I don’t need to add set up and pack up or even traveling time because its already included in the price of the first hole.

So the price would be around $160 for any additional hole.

How long does it take to repair a ceiling crack or to fix a hole in the wall?

The time it takes depends on the type of hole you need repaired.

Smaller holes that are more like a dent and haven’t penetrated through the board, can be completed in one day.

Most other holes (like this one) will take two to three days.

What I’ll do is… colour match your paint and paint up to two holes for free. 

This would usually cost and additional $120 to match and paint over your freshly patched walls.
